Today was a pretty busy day....Jasmine was overdue for her comprehensive wellness check from the vet, so we decided to get her into Banfield to get her checked. As full timers, it's difficult to be able to find vets when our dog starts feeling funky. We joined the Banfield program as we can find PetSmarts nationwide. They have all her records in the computer and can easily pull up her information. What we found interesting was that there are still a few States where Banfield is not located so we had to wait until we arrived in Utah to schedule her appointment. After spending about 4 hours of testing, I'm happy to report they found her in excellent health. The doc did admonish me to cut back on her "cookie" treats....she's about a pound over her ideal weight. After picking her up, we decided to tour the downtown area of Salt Lake City. The Capitol building was awesome as was the surrounding area...touring the City at night is much much different than it is during the day. Instead of the hustle and bustle, we found it peaceful and serene....Here's some pictures..
The Salt Lake City downtown skyline...
We found this house while driving around sightseeing. We don't know the significance of the structure, but it appeared vacant and was sandwiched between some heavy commercial companies. The archetechture was very interesting and there was what appeared to be a barn or large outbuilding.
The Capitol building encompasses 320,000 square feet. It holds the distinction of the only Capitol building that closely resembles the White House. We spent considerable time walking around the building and it's grounds.
This is the South entrance to the Capitol that overlooks the downtown area of Salt Lake City. The Capitol building itself was originally constructed in 1916.
Lions were the symbol of strength to the pioneers and this strength is symbolized throughout the region. These huge lions greet visitors at the entrance to the Capitol.
Sundown over the Great Salt Lake, as viewed from the Capitol Building.
Another view of the Capitol building looking north. Since I'm only using a Canon Powershot camera, I was quickly losing any semblance of light. Additional pictures taken downtown were too blurred to be of any value. The Temple is lit at night and was very beautiful. The Temple Square area is secured during evening and night time hours, but we walked around the perimeter....tomorrow, we tour the Great Salt Lake....
