After spending the day swimming in the Atlantic, we decided to go to the "West Coast". It's interesting as many Floridians say they're headed to the west coast for a vacation. I assumed they were headed to California, but found out they were only headed to the west coast of Florida. We drove around visiting Lazy Days and Tampa, then headed to St. Pete Beach and the Gulf of Mexico. We had a blast playing in the water. I rented one of the beach cabanas which allowed us shade and off the sand. We had packed a picnic lunch so it was perfect for that. I dickered with the vendor and got a great deal on the cabana rental. $20/cash/all day.
St. Pete Beach is an island just west of St. Petersburg Florida. Previously known as St. Petersburg Beach, in 1994 officials voted to change its' name officially to St. Pete Beach. It is accessible from the mainland by one of three bridges. It occupies the entire space of Long Key, one of the barrier islands. It is know for its' shopping, tourist destinations and of course, its' beautiful sandy beaches.
The main difference we found between the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico was there is less surf action on the Gulf. Those from the true West Coast will find the water a lot warmer....almost too warm...
The baby didn't like the Atlantic much so we thought we'd try him in the Gulf.
He wasn't too sure as it was warmer than his usual bath water...(wink)
After a bit though, and secure in his grandpa's arms, he decided it was pretty cool to be able to float around in.
Deb and Josh enjoyed it too!
How's this for a beach cruiser..??
In keeping with tradition, Cooper got his first taste of refried beans from Taco Bell.
